about
[This is a song written for the forthcoming record, Our Dead Were Scattered Before They Were Ash, but due to personal reasons, the message of this one in particular should be addressed in a stand-alone context.]
In our culture, the fear of Death is something of a Prime Mover, a grand Architect that paints broad strokes of negative actions and events onto our world; one that dies has failed, and the other that lives is the victor.
Terminal illnesses are terrifying, so much so that an attempt to remove the illness is called a battle, and to succumb is to lose this battle. We look upon those who are in a rapid state of dying and see ourselves, we've tricked ourselves into forgetting that we all are dying, every single moment just as much an act of decay as it is an opportunity to live.
Even the most fearsome beast, even the deadliest of enemies works actively to avoid death, to the point of dying in defense of their ability to live. If we look into the eyes of the fear of Death and become unafraid, we gain sovereignty over ourselves while we are here, and the doorway is opened for true freedom.
Illness and Death will occur. the tragedy will be unavoidable, and we all will come to this crossroad. Instead of seeing ourselves in our dying loved ones and reeling in abstract horror, we must accept that this is our path and our destination. Standing in defiance of fear and openly embracing our dying companions with compassion, we will become masters of our own existence, whatever that may entail.
lyrics
To know Death and the hour
To bear witness to a total negation
No horror out of the dark
Could stand in this shadow
In time these wounds within
Will engulf the Universe
I am dying and I have no control
What will become of me when I am gone?
I am so afraid of fading into nothing
Of losing all that I have known
Beyond this state of purest torment
Before the Sacred Earth
The pious suffering
This terminal crossroad

Powerful, plaintive expression of the fathomless sorrow of our suffering cetaceans and their depthless home, together with the indescribable loveliness of their distant blue-black realm. I feel as much interstellar space here as I do deep ocean, equally crushing and buoying. Dave Aftandilian
A blackened doom concept record about the very real problem of amphibian extinction, “Croak” is a punishing, essential listen. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 23, 2022

Atmospheric Doom / Death Metal from Australia. Proper Doom has the power to bring out your emotions & your sadness and forces you to process it so that you come out the other side feeling temporarily better. This is proper Doom Metal, at least for me, it does all those things... :) Love every song! Highly recommended!!! bmurator
